Mosquito Youth Education

There are two mosquito borne diseases endemic in Maine: Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile Virus (WNV).

Symptoms of EEE include: high fever, sore neck, headache, lack or energy, and inflammation of the brain. For more information on EEE

Symptoms of WNV include: fever, headache, body aches, and a skin rash. For more information on WNV

It is possible to be infected with EEE or WNV and not have any symptoms.

Always remember when at home or traveling, no matter the season, it is a great idea to avoid contact with mosquitoes and ticks because they can carry many different diseases. Both kids and parents should always dress properly and wear appropriate insect repellents and do a daily “tick check” when exposed.
