License Types

Prefix AL = Administrative License - This license is for Medical Doctors who do not engage in any clinical patient practice. *This prefix has been retired and transitioned to MDA*

Prefix CP = Camp Physician License - This is only valid for a specific time and place during the summer.

Prefix EC = Educational Certificate - This is for physicians who are in ACGME approved postgraduate training (residency). It is only valid at the hospital administering the residency. This license is site specific.

Prefix EL = Emergency License - This is an EMERGENCY LICENSE, NOT TO EXCEED 100 DAYS, Pursuant to 32 M.R.S.A. ? 3278. This license is site specific.

Prefix MD = Medical Doctor permanent license.

Prefix MDA = Medical Doctor Administrative - This is a license limited to the practice of administrative medicine. This license does not allow the clinical practice of medicine.

Prefix MDE = Emeritus License - This is a license issued to a qualified physician who is licensed in Maine, has retired from the active practice of medicine and does not render medical services or prescribe any medications. This license does not allow the clinical practice of medicine.

Prefix MDV = Medical Doctor Volunteer permanent license. For MD's working only on a volunteer basis at clinics for the indigent.

Prefix PA = Physician Assistant - This license is for physician assistants who will be working with physicians who hold a permanent license.

Prefix PAN = Physician Assistant Non-clinical - This license is for physician assistants who hold a license but do not have a current certificate of registration or primary supervising physician that is registered with the Board. This license does not allow for the rendering of medical services or the prescribing of medications.

Prefix TD = Temporary Doctor License - This is a temporary license granted for the time specified, but not to exceed one year. This license is site specific.

Prefix TM = Consultative Telemedicine - This is for physicians who will be providing Consultative Telemedicine and not physically practicing in the state.
