According to Sec 32. 7 M.R.S.A. §1801 and 01-001 Chapter 206: Prevention and Control of Certain Diseases of Domestic Animals and Poultry, diseases or pathogens must be reported to the Maine Department of Agriculture, Division of Animal Health.

Disease reporting may be achieved using our on-line Disease Reporting Form.

When reporting, please provide the following information:

  • Name, address and phone of veterinarian
  • Specify disease or event
  • Suspected OR confirmed diagnosis
  • Owner Information
  • Name, address, phone, street/mailing address and county
  • Specify animal
  • Species and number of infected animals
  • Action taken prior to notification
  • What sort of advice to provide owner?
  • What tests were conducted?
  • What were the results?
  • Any other pertinent information.

Although not yet in rule, we would ask your cooperation in reporting the following immediately:

  • Any vesicular lesions that you question may be a foreign disease (especially where there is blistering around the nose, mouth, hooves and/or teats)
  • Hemorrhagic or CNS problems affecting a herd or flock
  • Any sudden unexplained morbidity/mortality in a herd or flock 
  • Any Clustering of illness in an area
  • "Small Animal" zoonotic disease or a toxicity tht may pose a significant public health risk.
  • Basically, "Anything Weird" that you have a question about
