Reporting New Hires
New Hire Reporting Requirement
Both federal and Maine law require employers to report to the state when an individual is hired or rehired. This information is used primarily for child support enforcement as part of the Federal Parent Locator System. Furthermore, timely and accurate reporting of new hires and rehires is critical information that prevents and detects improper unemployment benefit payments and reduces unemployment fraud.
