ROCKLAND—The Rockland CareerCenter, part of the Maine Department of Labor, and in conjunction with its partners offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills and employers to find qualified workers.
“Maine employers are struggling to find workers in this tight labor market,” said Governor Paul R. LePage. “If you can work, we can help you get back in a job or, if you are working, we can help you get a better job. Our CareerCenters are staffed with professional career counselors who can help you improve your resume, prepare for any of the many job fairs happening this spring, and get you on the path to a good-paying career.”
The following services are free to the public and available at the CareerCenter. All require pre-registration or an individual appointment made in person or by phone at 596-2600 unless otherwise noted.
Career Directions — Explore your career interests, aptitudes, values, personality, and motivations, and see how they connect to today’s job market. By appointment.
Resume and Cover Letter Writing — Learn the basics of how to evaluate or create an effective resume and cover letter. By appointment.
Small Business Start-Up Class — Tuesday, March 20, 1-3 p.m. Learn the basics about creating a business plan, with certified business counselor David Hill. Call to pre-register.
Effective Interviewing Skills — Learn some ideas to make your next job interview more effective. By appointment.
Planning Your Job Search — The latest tips and ideas for a successful job search in today’s labor market. By appointment.
Computer Boot Camp — To introduce computer basics to people who have never used one before. By appointment.
Vocational Rehabilitation Orientation — Introduction to services for jobseekers who feel they have a disability that makes it difficult to obtain or keep a job. By appointment. Call 596-2641.

Employer Services — To learn about no-cost services including Hiring Assistance, Workforce Training Workers, Labor Law Assistance, Layoffs, and Workplace Health & Safety, call 596-2600.

New Ventures Maine offers no-cost classes in Assertive Communication, Creating Your Future, Creating the Rest of Your Life, Credit Yourself, Entrepreneurial Training, Financing Your Future, Professional Development and Mature Worker Activities. CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O’Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
