AUGUSTA - Maine House Democrats on Thursday elected Rep. Mo Terry, D-Gorham, to serve as House Majority Leader and Rep. Kristen Cloutier, D-Lewiston, as Assistant Majority Leader.

Terry replaces termed-out Rep. Michelle Dunphy as House Majority Leader, while Cloutier replaces current Assistant Majority Leader Rep. Rachel Talbot Ross, who earned the House Democratic nomination to serve as Speaker of the House. A final vote on that position will be taken by the entire House of Representatives on Dec. 7 when the Legislature convenes for swearing-in day.

Terry introduces legislation to strengthen Maine's energy storage capacity

AUGUSTA - Rep. Mo Terry, D-Gorham, presented LD 2030, a bill aimed at encouraging energy storage companies to conduct business in Maine, before the Legislature's Taxation Committee on Wednesday. LD 2030 would create an exemption from sales and use tax for energy storage systems and would make qualified energy storage systems eligible for the business equipment tax exemption.

House approves Terry's bill to create an income tax return checkoff for hunger prevention

AUGUSTA - The Maine House of Representatives gave initial approval Wednesday to a bill that would establish a checkoff box on Mainers' tax returns to support hunger prevention.

LD 1046, sponsored by Rep. Mo Terry, D-Gorham, would create a checkoff provision on Maine income tax forms to give taxpayers the option of contributing to the emergency food assistance program administered by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF).
