AUGUSTA - Following the House and Senate votes on Wednesday, House Majority Leader Mo Terry (D-Gorham) and Assistant Majority Leader Kristen Cloutier (D-Lewiston) released the following statements on the Emergency Winter Heating Relief Plan.
House Majority Leader Mo Terry issued the following statement:
"I am deeply disappointed that Senate Republicans chose to reject this emergency heating plan that would have provided immediate relief for hundreds of thousands of Mainers rightfully concerned about affording to heat their homes this winter. House Democrats and Republicans came together tonight to overwhelmingly support this proposal to help low- and middle-income families across our state. Our work shows the House is ready to come together to make progress for the people of Maine in the session ahead. Regardless of the outcome of tonight's vote, House Democrats remain committed to finding solutions and providing much needed assistance for Mainers."
Assistant Majority Leader Kristen Cloutier issued the following statement:
"Maine people have stated loud and clear that they are worried about affording to heat their homes in the coming months. This crisis requires immediate action to help people make ends meet until the Legislature returns in January to discuss long-term solutions. The House and Senate Democrats heeded the call. The proposal we voted on tonight would have provided a lifeline for families during a time of record high energy prices. This cannot and will not be the end of the discussion."
