Augusta legislators honor local athlete

Rep. Raegan LaRochelle, D-Augusta, Rep. Bill Bridgeo, D-Augusta, and Sen. Matthew Pouliot, R-Kennebec, welcomed Parker Sergent of Augusta to the State House on Tuesday and presented him with a legislative sentiment.

Sergent, a student at Cony High School and a player on the boys' basketball team, recently scored his 1,000th career point.

LaRochelle welcomes New England track and field champion to State House

Representative id

Rep. Raegan LaRochelle, D-Augusta, presented a legislative sentiment to Conor Morin and welcomed his family and coach to the State House on Wednesday.

Morin was recognized for winning the triple jump at the 2023 New England Interscholastic Boys Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

The track and field star broke his own Cony High School record and set a new Class B record with a jump of 47 feet, 6 inches. He also placed 11th in the nation at the New Balance National Championship this month.

LaRochelle introduces legislation to expand Child Care Subsidy Program access

AUGUSTA - Rep. Raegan LaRochelle, D-Augusta, presented a measure on Tuesday to help more Maine families afford child care by expanding access to the Child Care Subsidy Program, which provides assistance to eligible parents who are working, in school, in a job training program or who are retired and the legal guardian of a child.

House Democrats introduce legislation to invest in Maine's clean energy transition

AUGUSTA - The climate crisis continues to pose a significant threat to Maine and the world. To help further Maine's transition to clean energy, House Democrats have recently unveiled several pieces of legislation to weatherize existing infrastructure, help implement green building standards for new construction and transition to clean energy without creating additional waste.

Collectively, the measures will help Maine reduce its reliance on fossil fuels, lower energy costs and improve energy independence.
