I’ve heard from many Gorham families who are bracing for significant increases in the cost of their health insurance in 2026. They’re gravely concerned about the enhanced federal tax credits expiring, which have helped families across Maine access coverage through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace.
AUGUSTA – Rep. Holly B. Stover, D-Boothbay, was named Legislative Champion by HospitalityMaine at the industry group’s annual summit on Monday. The award recognizes Stover’s work at the State House to support local hospitality businesses.
AUGUSTA –– A new bill from Rep. Dan Ankeles, D-Brunswick, could provide private well owners with greater support during and after environmental emergencies like chemical spills.
Ankeles is introducing the measure for the upcoming legislative session as a follow up to his other bills passed in response to a major toxic firefighting foam discharge on the former Brunswick Naval Air Station in August 2024.
AUGUSTA – Rep. Cheryl Golek, D-Harpswell, Rep. Dan Ankeles, D-Brunswick, and Rep. Poppy Arford, D-Brunswick, will come together to host a food drive in support of the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program (MCHPP). They will be collecting donations at Saint Paul's Pleasant Street Episcopal Church in Brunswick on Friday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and at the Harpswell Town Office on Sunday, Nov. 23 from 12 to 2 p.m.

As the federal government grinds through a historic shutdown, the headlines – predictably – often focus on political maneuvering. But out of the political spotlight, the real story is unfolding in colder homes, emptier fridges and workplaces where people are showing up without pay. The pain can be quiet, cumulative and largely invisible to those in power who call basic assistance like heating help and food security measures “extreme.”
AUGUSTA – Rep. Dan Sayre, D-Kennebunk, has been appointed to serve as House chair of the Legislature’s Taxation Committee by Speaker Ryan Fecteau, D-Biddeford. Having served in Maine’s House of Representatives for three years, he takes over for Rep. Kristen Cloutier, who resigned from the House effective Oct. 31.
The committee oversees the Bureau of Revenue Services and the State Board of Property Tax Review, as well as measures related to taxpayer relief programs, property valuation and assessment, and municipal revenue sharing.

Throughout my first year in office, one of the most frequent concerns I’ve heard from constituents is that the rising cost of living is making it harder for families in Gorham to get ahead. From increasing housing costs to grocery prices, it feels like everything is more expensive now than it was even just a year ago. It’s hurting working families and older folks on fixed incomes the most.
