Brunswick lawmakers to host food drive in support of Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program

AUGUSTA – Rep. Cheryl Golek, D-Harpswell, Rep. Dan Ankeles, D-Brunswick, and Rep. Poppy Arford, D-Brunswick, will come together to host a food drive in support of the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program (MCHPP). They will be collecting donations at Saint Paul's Pleasant Street Episcopal Church in Brunswick on Friday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and at the Harpswell Town Office on Sunday, Nov. 23 from 12 to 2 p.m.

In addition to accepting food donations, Golek, Ankeles and Arford will be available at both locations to share updates on their work, their goals for the upcoming legislative session and to answer any questions constituents may have.

“Food insecurity impacts countless families in our state,” said Golek. “During the years of my life that I was a single mother, raising two small children alone, I remember how crucial support from local food banks like Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program was in providing my family with fresh food. I am proud to partner with Reps. Ankeles and Arford on this food drive to support our neighbors and to give back to the food bank that helped me and my family when we needed it most.”

“As we head into winter, it is so important that we stay focused on caring for each other,” said Ankeles. “The Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program plays a vital role in keeping the greater Brunswick community fed and healthy, and I am grateful to partner with Reps. Arford and Golek to keep that momentum going as part of our constituent services work.”

“We are very fortunate to have the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program supporting people in our community with no-cost, nutritious food. I am grateful to have volunteered with the soup kitchen and grocery delivery programs, and I know how necessary, appreciated and truly caring their programs are,” said Arford. “As a Brunswick legislator, I want to make sure all our community members know about this incredible resource if and when they need it. We are inviting those who are able to support its mission to join us in doing so this holiday season and throughout the year.”
