AUGUSTA – On Thursday, local lawmakers reacted to news that York Hospital is seeking approval to join MaineHealth, a nonprofit health care network and the state’s largest hospital system.
Reps. Kristi Mathieson, D-Kittery, Anne-Marie Mastraccio, D-Sanford, Michele Meyer, D-Eliot, Tiffany Roberts, D-South Berwick, Gerry Runte, D-York, and Holly Sargent, D-York, released the following joint statement:
“York Hospital is a cornerstone of the health of our communities here in the Seacoast region. Our local hospital provides residents of southern York County with vitally important access to comprehensive care. As elected officials, protecting and expanding this access is our top priority.
“The partnership between York Hospital and MaineHealth will mean a more secure future for health care services in southern Maine, today and for generations to come. By maintaining a local board of trustees, MaineHealth affirms its understanding of the value of local leadership and the voices of those who have a long history of receiving outstanding care at our small community hospital.
“In the coming weeks, we will be monitoring the process closely and working with the leadership of both York Hospital and MaineHealth to ensure the smoothest possible transition that preserves access to quality health care for all our neighbors.”
