AUGUSTA - The Legislature's Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee voted on Friday to advance legislation sponsored by House Majority Leader Mo Terry, D-Gorham, aimed at supporting military members transitioning to civilian life in Maine.
LD 265 would help fund organizations actively recruiting retiring military members and their families to Maine, and would provide support as they transition to civilian life.
AUGUSTA - A majority of the Legislature's Taxation Committee voted Thursday to move forward LD 287, An Act to Support Parents by Providing a Sales Tax Exemption for Diapers. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Kelly Noonan Murphy, D-Scarborough.
The bill was amended to include diaper accessories such as covers and pins and clarifies that the exemption is limited to the purchase of children's diapers.
AUGUSTA - Rep. Dan Ankeles, D-Brunswick, presented LD 527, An Act to Allow Municipalities to Create Bicycle and Pedestrian Zones with Reduced Speed Limits, at a public hearing before the Legislature's Transportation Committee Thursday.
AUGUSTA - A bill introduced, this week by Rep. Anne Perry, D-Calais, would provide support to the many small communities across the state to develop and promote events and natural resource-based tourism opportunities.
LD 807, An Act to Create the Small Communities Tourism Fund, would establish a fund within the Department of Economic and Community Development's Office of Tourism to be awarded to eligible communities.
AUGUSTA - Rep. Amy Roeder, D-Bangor, has proposed legislation to protect Maine employees that request flexible work schedules from retaliation by their employers. There are currently no existing provisions in state law offering this protection.
