Legislative committee advances Terry bill to support veterans relocating to Maine

AUGUSTA - The Legislature's Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee voted on Friday to advance legislation sponsored by House Majority Leader Mo Terry, D-Gorham, aimed at supporting military members transitioning to civilian life in Maine.

LD 265 would help fund organizations actively recruiting retiring military members and their families to Maine, and would provide support as they transition to civilian life.

"Organizations, like Boots2Roots, that help retiring service members relocate to Maine and transition back to civilian life do incredible work," said Terry. "Maine needs quality workers and supporting these veterans and their families in finding educational and employment opportunities is both good for those individuals and provides a meaningful benefit for our whole state."

"I am so pleased that the committee voted to approve this measure, which will allow us to welcome even more dedicated, hardworking and talented individuals to Maine."

The bill faces further votes in the House and Senate in the coming weeks.

Terry, who represents part of Gorham, is serving her fourth term in the Maine House and is the House Majority Leader. She is a chef and small business owner with more than 25 years of experience in the food service industry.
