Sayre to deliver remarks in recognition of longstanding relationship between Québec and Maine

AUGUSTA – Today, Rep. Dan Sayre, D-Kennebunk, will join René Sylvestre, Québec Delegate to New England, for a reception to discuss the longstanding history and diplomatic friendship between the Canadian province of Québec and the State of Maine. The event will begin at 11 a.m. in the State House’s Welcome Center and will feature brief keynote remarks from both Rep. Sayre and Delegate Sylvestre at 12 p.m.  

Legislature gives initial approval to Golek measure to investigate income-based rental discrimination

AUGUSTA – This week, the Maine House and Senate voted to advance a bill sponsored by Rep. Cheryl Golek, D-Harpswell, which would establish a commission to investigate housing discrimination based on a tenant's legal source of income, including the use of rental assistance.

We’re all too familiar with the large potholes that can pop a tire, or the work commute that gets suddenly interrupted because a culvert collapsed and made the road impassable. These aren’t just minor inconveniences, they are safety hazards and daily frustrations for people here in Lincoln County and across our state.

Tax Filing Resources

While it might not always feel like it outside, Spring is officially here – and that means that the tax filing deadline of April 15 is just right around the corner. While I don’t think anyone enjoys doing their taxes, I want to highlight a measure that the Legislature has passed recently to put money back into the pockets of working Mainers, along with some existing tax credits and filing resources that could hopefully make this year a bit less painful.  

Committee advances Runte bill allowing towns to choose local electricity supply

AUGUSTA – A majority of the Legislature’s Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee voted recently to advance legislation sponsored by Rep. Gerry Runte, D-York, that allows towns to purchase electricity based on the priorities of their residents, like lower rates or from renewable sources, without taking over the responsibility of delivery and billing from utilities.
