AUGUSTA – Today, Rep. Dan Sayre, D-Kennebunk, will join René Sylvestre, Québec Delegate to New England, for a reception to discuss the longstanding history and diplomatic friendship between the Canadian province of Québec and the State of Maine. The event will begin at 11 a.m. in the State House’s Welcome Center and will feature brief keynote remarks from both Rep. Sayre and Delegate Sylvestre at 12 p.m.
“Maine’s economy and culture have been inextricably linked with the province of Québec for centuries – from the arts and culture brought by generations of Francophone immigrants, to the tourists who return to Maine year after year, and the energy and forest products industries that are essential to life on both sides of the border,” said Sayre. “We are delighted to take this day to celebrate the longstanding and resilient friendship between Maine and Québec.”
“Québec’s connection to Maine is historic and precious,” said René Sylvestre. “We share more than just hundreds of miles of international border. We share a rich history, culture, family and ancestry, and a robust, interconnected economy.”
The event will take place on the same day as the presentation of HP 1520, a resolution sponsored by Rep. Sayre to recognize the history and partnership between the two countries. The resolution will be introduced on the floor of the House of Representatives before it will be voted upon in the Senate.
