Rep. Allison Hepler, D-Woolwich, welcomed “the Getchell gang,” family and friends of the late Gary Getchell of Dresden, to the State

House on Thursday to honor his work in the community.

Gary Getchell devoted his life to education, mentorship and growing community. While living in Dresden, in retirement, he worked as an adjunct professor at Kennebec Valley Community College and instructed mathematics teachers at Hall-Dale. Getchell was instrumental in starting the consolidation of what would become Regional School Unit 2. He also served on the Dresden School Committee, the RSU 2 School Committee, the Dresden Select Board, as Santa during the Richmond Tree Lighting Event and participated in the Richmond Players performing group.
