Apprenticeship Participation Continues Growth in 2009 Bookmark and Share

Despite the challenges of a steep national recession and a slowdown in hiring from employers, the Maine Apprenticeship Program continued its pattern of growth through 2009.

Over the year, nearly 350 workers started apprenticeships leading the nationally recognized credentials and licenses as well as associate?s, bachelor?s, and master?s degrees. Total participation in the program grew 12 percent to 1,503 active apprentices.

The average apprentice sees an increase in wages of 51.7 percent during their apprenticeship and the program boasts an average return on investment of $119.70 for every General Fund dollar spent.
