MDOL's SafetyWorks!, OSHA, & Construction Safety Alliance of Maine partner to promote workplace safety among industry workers

MAINE - The U.S. Department of Labors Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Maine Department of Labor Workplace Safety and Health Divisions SafetyWorks! outreach program, and the Construction Safety Alliance of Maine signed an alliance to promote workplace safety and health and educate construction employers and workers in the state on safety and health hazards.

"Partnerships like these will help Maine workers stay safe on the job," said Michael Roland, Director of MDOLs Bureau of Labor Standards. We look forward to continuing to work with employers in the construction industry and other industries to promote safety and health in the workplace.

"My Administration is committed to doing all we can to support our veterans, including assisting them in finding work. When our friends and family members come home from serving on the frontlines, they deserve every opportunity to find rewarding careers that utilize their extensive skills, diverse experiences, and unique training in the civil sector," said Governor Janet Mills. "Whether you are a transitioning veteran returning to or choosing the state of Maine as your new home, or whether you are a long-time Maine resident, making a career change or reentering the workforce, our Hire-A-Vet campaign can help you on your job search."

The alliance will focus on protecting workers by reducing and preventing exposure to construction hazards, such as falls, struck-by injuries, electrocution, and being caught in or between machinery and vehicles. It will also address ongoing trends in construction safety and health and promote workers rights and employers responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

The members of this alliance share a common interest: helping ensure that workers return home safely to their families and friends at the end of every workday, said OSHA Area Director in Maine, David McGuan.

The alliance partners will use injury, illness and hazard exposure data to help identify areas of emphasis for outreach and communication, and use tools, such as member surveys, to evaluate the alliances impact on improving workplace safety and health.

Through the Alliance Program, OSHA works with organizations such as trade and professional associations, labor unions, educational institutions, community and faith-based groups, and government agencies to share information about OSHA's initiatives and compliance assistance resources with workers and employers, and educate workers and employers about their rights and responsibilities.
