Some Employers Receive Notice from Maine Dept. of Labor in Error - Department Notifying Affected Employers Individually
AUGUSTA - In late June, a subset of the 50,000 registered employers who filed their first quarter unemployment insurance contributions with the Department's Bureau of Unemployment Compensation erroneously received a notice indicating that their payment had not been received timely. The Department is in the process of notifying the 5,928 impacted employers individually that the notice they received was in error and that their accounts have been updated to show that a timely payment was made.
The Department regrets the error. It has corrected the problem and made programming changes to prevent recurrence.
Impacted employers will be mailed correspondence from the Maine Dept. of Labor by the end of this week. In addition, emails will be sent to those employers for whom the Department has email addresses. In the meantime, employers can log into their online portal accounts and verify that their payments submitted for the first quarter have been updated.
If an employer has not yet set up their portal account, we encourage them to do so as it gives them access to their account history 24/7. Employers with questions or needing assistance in setting up their online portal account can contact the Department at (207)-621-5120 Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
