AUGUSTA?Maine Department of Labor?s Bureau of Labor Standards is hosting a no-cost course in Augusta and Portland to help employers navigate the waters of hiring Minors in the Workforce. This seminar covers the basics, such as how to apply for a work permit, how many hours can a minor work, and hazards in the work place.

?We must prepare Maine?s next generation of workers, by promoting and encouraging youth to enter the workforce earlier," said Governor Paul R. LePage. "The skills learned through that first job cannot be overstated; from managing their own money, to being dependable and on time, to beginning their quest for a career, there is no better preparation for a lifetime of work than that first job.?

Two classes are scheduled:

  • May 31, 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Greater Portland CareerCenter, 151 Jetport Blvd., Portland, ME
  • June 12, 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Bangor CareerCenter, 45 Oak St., Bangor, ME
