June 22: Free virtual event for job seekers interested in direct care and behavioral health career paths
Caring for ME lunchtime event will feature training opportunities and career paths in direct care and behavioral health
MAINE - Caring for ME, a collaborative campaign from the Maine Departments of Labor (DOL), Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Economic & Community Development (DECD) to attract more employees into the direct care and behavioral health fields, will hold its first virtual event Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 12 to 1 p.m. (EDT).
The event will feature panelists discussing career opportunities within the direct support and behavioral health fields, with a focus on positions in highest demand in Maine: Direct Support Professional (DSP), Behavioral Health Professional (BHP), Certified Residential Medication Aide (CRMA), and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
"There are many great entry points into the healthcare sector, leading to rewarding careers doing critical work," said Laura Fortman, Commissioner of the Maine Department of Labor. "Statewide initiatives such as Caring for ME will help Mainers decide whether health care is the right career for them, and provide a connection to resources, education, and training in an easy-to-access website. I encourage anyone interested in a healthcare career path to attend this virtual event."
Panelists include Renee Freudenberger, Woodfords' Family Services Training Director; Angie Hunt, CIO of The Cedars; and Cedric Mfuranzima, who became a Direct Support Professional after moving to the U.S., and now offers advanced education and training for direct care professionals in Maine and New Hampshire.
Moderated by Jess Maurer, Executive Director of Maine Council on Aging, the event will detail strategies to begin a fulfilling healthcare career, inform attendees of the latest training opportunities and resources, and explain how to get started. This jam-packed event, which will be recorded and posted on the Caring For ME events page, will help job seekers form a potential career plan.
