AUGUSTA--The Augusta CareerCenter and Capital Area Adult Education are partnering to offer eligible Kennebec County youth a paid work experience that provides education and mentoring in fields related to their career interests. Call 626-2470 for more information and to register.

"We know that our economy needs workers, and we also know that the earlier we can connect young people to employment, the more successful they are in staying employed throughout their lifetimes," said Governor Paul R. LePage. "Our summer youth employment program in Central Maine accomplishes both these goals. This is a win-win for our youth and our employers."

The Working2Succeed program is a 10-week paid work experience open to Kennebec County residents between the ages of 17 to 24 who are unemployed or underemployed, or are working on obtaining their HiSET diploma or getting ready to go to college, or are parenting, or are homeless, or have a documented disability.

Successful candidates will take part in no-cost individualized education and/or mentoring, and are matched with local employers based on their individual career-interest assessment results. Participants will then work 20 hours per week with the local employer at $9 per hour. Candidates must provide work eligibility documents and have reliable transportation.
