Maine Jobs Council Updated on Economic Recovery Bill

Opportunities and expectations around American Recovery and Reinvestment Act discussed.
The February Maine Jobs Council meeting included a briefing on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and its implications for Maine workers and employers.
Maine Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman spoke about provisions in the legislation covering Unemployment Insurance modernization and changes to the Trade Adjustment Assistance program. She also talked about new opportunities for targeted training with Workforce Investment Act recovery funds.
Commissioner Fortman stressed Governor Baldacci?s commitment to ensuring the transparency and accountability for every dollar spent in Maine.
The Jobs Council awarded three of Maine?s four workforce areas with incentive funds for meeting or exceeding negotiated workforce investment act performance standards targeting placement, credentialing and wage attainment of adults, dislocated workers, and youth.
