WASHINGTON COUNTY?CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or to upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume and cover letter writing software, Internet access, and O?Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.

?Mainers learn new job search skills when they visit their local CareerCenter,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?Workshops facilitated by the Department of Labor?s career consultants provide helpful advice and resources to job seekers, from entry level to executive positions. With monthly job fairs and more than 9,500 jobs on the Maine Job Bank, a visit to MaineCareerCenter.com is where Mainers should start or jump start their career search.?

Essentials of College Planning ? presented by Maine Educational Opportunity Center Thursdays, by appointment, Machias CareerCenter, 53 Prescott Drive, Ste. 1 This interactive workshop touches on the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career and study skills. The admission section reviews college options, the college search process and the application structure. The fundamentals of financial aid, including the filing process and the applications are covered in detail. Career options and counseling are introduced. Effective transitions into college, college readiness and study skills are discussed. To register call Lori at 207-664-3774.
