SKOWHEGAN?Maine CareerCenters bring job seekers and employers together. For those who are looking to make a change in careers or get a new job, the Skowhegan CareerCenter will be offering a variety of programs for job seekers in May.

?Our unemployment rate is falling and our businesses are hiring,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?If you are searching for work but haven?t been getting interviews, I encourage you to contact a CareerCenter for free help in improving that resume and practicing job interviews. CareerCenters will help you be in the best position to take advantage of our economic growth.?

All workshops and events are held at the CareerCenter unless otherwise noted. To register for sessions held at the Skowhegan CareerCenter, call 474-4950.

GATEway to Employment?Mondays, May 5 and 19, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. This workshop will provide more information about the resources that the CareerCenter has to offer, including the newest tools to assist you in conducting an efficient and productive job search. Topics covered include how to tap into the "hidden job market,? identifying the skills you have to offer employers, tips on successfully completing applications, resumes and cover letters and how to register and apply for jobs posted through the CareerCenter.

Resume 1 and Cover Letter Writing?Tuesday, May 6, 1 to 3:30 p.m. This workshop provides valuable tips on cover letters, resume writing, including contents, format and much more. Learn to make a new, highly effective resume using the techniques taught in this workshop.

Essentials of College Planning for Adults ? Wednesdays, May 7 and 21, at 10 a.m. This interactive workshop touches on the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career planning and study skills. The financial aid portion of this workshop will provide an overview of financial basics and the completion of the Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Bring last year?s income tax forms to this appointment. Please call 1-800-281-3703 to pre-register. This session is held at the DHHS offices located next door to the CareerCenter. It is the same building but go through the DHHS entrance doors.

Successful Interviewing Skills?May 13, 1 to 3:30 p.m. Discussion of the purpose of the interview, types of interviews and general preparation for interviews. ?Tough? interview questions will be discussed so that you can answer them with confidence.

Resume 2?Thursday, May 15, 1 to 3 p.m. Now that you have learned the basics in Resume 1, sign-up for the Resume 2 session. Bring your resume on a thumb drive and we will help you take it from good to great! Reserve your spot to work on a laptop computer and receive guidance from the experts.

Effective Communication Skills?Tuesday, May 20, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Discover your own communication style and be able to recognize the style of others; communicating clearly can help improve your relationship with supervisors, coworkers, friends and family.

Open Computer Lab?Thursday, May 22, 1 to 3:00 p.m. Reserve your spot to use one of the laptop computers to receive one-on-one help with Basic Computer Skills 101, Maine Job Bank registration and other job search tutorials.

Set your Goals?Tuesday, May 27, 1 to 3:30 p.m. Manage your time! Set goals! When you know how to manage your time effectively, you can achieve your personal and professional success!

CareerCenter Application Session Our CareerCenter Consultants assist people with their job searches, career decision making and training plans. If you are interested in obtaining more one-on-one assistance from a CareerCenter Consultant, contact the CareerCenter at 474-4950 to make an appointment and get the list of required documents to bring.

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O*Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
