?The Department of Labor and DHHS have been collaborating to make it easier for people who need jobs to get them,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?Businesses and citizens in Hancock County are benefitting from this partnership.?
Participating employers include Jackson Laboratory, TJ Maxx, Mert Enterprises, Wal-Mart, Collier?s Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, Springborn Staffing, Eastern Maine Development Corporation and Kidspeace International Centers of NE Inc.
There is no cost for this event, and all job seekers are welcome. Attendees should bring a resume and, more important, should be prepared to have an ?interview-like? conversation with employers to discuss skills, knowledge areas and abilities. Job seekers should also be dressed for an interview.
Department of Labor staff from the Bangor CareerCenter, which serves Hancock County, will be on hand to explain how job seekers can gain free access to details of hundreds of opportunities on the Maine Job Bank at http://www.mainecareercenter.com . Employers can post jobs on the Job Bank for free.
The event is sponsored by DHHS and the Maine Department of Labor and is a result of the tri-agency collaboration undertaken by the commissioners of the Departments of Labor and Education and DHHS. The collaboration seeks to leverage the strengths of each agency to assist people in finding good jobs through education and training, career counseling and supportive services.
CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O?Net software for skills assessment.
