PRESQUE ISLE—The Presque Isle CareerCenter announces October programming for job seekers and those who are considering training to upgrade their skills to increase their employability.
“I encourage people to take advantage of the free assistance that the Presque Isle CareerCenter provides job seekers,” said Governor Paul R. LePage. “CareerCenter staff can help you plan a new career or connect you with today’s job search tools.”
All businesses looking to hire and people looking for work should register with the Maine Job Bank. This month the Job Bank has more than 7,000 job openings. There is no cost to create a profile if you are a job seeker or to list a job if you are an employer.
Job seekers and businesses interested in connecting with one another can also “like” the CareerCenter on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Presque-Isle-CareerCenter/ . Workshops and events are held at the CareerCenter unless otherwise noted. Maine Veterans receive priority of service in all CareerCenter programs.
Job Fair at the Crow’s Nest in Presque Isle, Oct. 9, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come meet employers and learn about the area resources available to you.
Creating Winning Resumes—workshops offered Oct. 2, 16, 23 and 30; 9 a.m. to noon. Learn how to create a professional resume and walk out the door with one in hand after this three-hour workshop.
Gateways to Employment—workshop offered in two locations: Houlton on Oct. 22; 9 to 10 a.m., and in Presque Isle on Oct. 18, 9 a.m. to noon. Want to jump start your job search? Learn new strategies, proper interviewing skills and the correct way to fill out a job application.
Financial Aid— Oct. 23 and 30, 9 a.m. to noon. Get assistance with college planning and financial aid. Please pre-register at 800-281-3703 or http://meoc.maine.edu .
W.I.S.E. Workshop: Work Incentive Seminar Event —Oct. 23, 10 a.m. to noon. Find out about work incentives and rules designed exclusively to help Social Security beneficiaries (SSI or SSDI) get back to work.
CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O’Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
