Business Visitation Report on Gardiner Downtown District Bookmark and Share

July 25, 2008

The Maine Department of Labor Business Visitation Program recently wrapped-up work with the Gardiner Downtown District and released a summary report on business needs in the community.

The majority of the 51 businesses surveyed reported business growth over the last five years, and all but 12 projected growth in the foreseeable future. Businesses said that skilled labor was the single most important factor influencing their success. Employee skills most in demand were verbal communication, teamwork, decisionmaking and management.

In conducting the survey, Business Visitation Program volunteers gather information about the needs of the region?s existing business base. Businesses are then provided with referrals connecting them to local and state programs that can assist them with their questions, problems or concerns.
