WASHINGTON COUNTRY?The Washington Country Career Centers are offering programs in August for job seekers and those considering training to upgrade their skills and increase their employability.

?There will be several jobs fairs held across the state this fall,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?August is a great time to improve your resume and to prepare for those job fair interviews. CareerCenters can help both individuals who need a job and businesses that need to hire workers.?

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O?Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.

CareerCenters can assist businesses recruit employees and can offer workshops at their location at no cost to the business. The following workshops and programs will be held at the indicated CareerCenters.

GATEways to Employment: Group Access to Employment Session? August 7, 2 p.m. at the Calais CareerCenter and August 22, 9 a.m. at the Machias CareerCenter. Is your job search in need of a boost? Are you looking for a way to stand out to a potential employer? Do you want to be at a significant advantage from other job seekers in today's competitive job-seeking environment?

GATEways to Employment is a great opportunity for you! Come and share your ideas and experiences with other job seekers. Essentials of College Planning? August 8, 10 a.m. at the Machias CareerCenter. Sally Daniels, an advisor from Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) will be offering a free workshop for adults? topics on College Awareness and Planning along with the Federal Financial Aid process. The session will discuss college and trade school options in the Washington County region, entrance requirements, readiness and transitional issues of adult students, admissions procedures and financial aid. The instructor will assist participants in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Participants should bring 2012 1040 tax form (or income estimates for 2012) and any high school/GED and college transcripts. Study Skills?August 8, 3 p.m. at the Machias CareerCenter. This workshop will introduce specific study skills, which will contribute to success in college. Students will develop useful study habits in the areas of note taking, effective listening, test taking, and time management. Migrant and Farm Worker Outreach?Monday, August, 5 p.m. at Wyman?s C&D, Deblois; Tuesday, August 6,5 p.m. at Blueberry Circle, Cherryfield; Wednesday, August 7, 5 p.m. at Merrill Blueberry Camps, Mariaville. The following representatives will be available to discuss agricultural employment topics: USDOL Wage & Hour Division, MDOL SafetyWorks, MDOL State Monitor Advocate, MDOL CareerCenter.
