Machias CareerCenter Employee Recognized for Service to Youth
May 27, 2008
Machias CareerCenter consultant, Janie Small, was recognized by the Maine Children?s Cabinet last week for her work with the Keeping Maine?s Children Connected initiative.
Susan Lieberman, Keeping Maine?s Children Connected project director, said that Small was recognized for her ?extraordinary efforts and impressive leadership in working with and supporting youth who have experienced a disruption in their education program.?
Small has served as an unofficial youth ambassador for the CareerCenter and her work has brought a lot of young people into the office. She helped develop the popular ?Downeast Dan? series focused on helping young adults with career decision-making and life skills. She recently led a project at a local high school to have students document the stories of older residents in her community, which helped participants gain an appreciation for their neighbors and the quality of life in Washington County.
