Safety Partnership Developed for Brewer Development Site
May 28, 2008
The Maine Department of Labor SafetyWorks! program has partnered with Barr and Barr Builders, Inc and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to improve safety at the Eastern Maine Health Systems Brewer Professional Center construction site in Brewer.
Barr and Barr is the general contractor at the building and the agreement includes training for the 15 different subcontractors that will be working at the project site. The partnership aims to reduce injury rates at the site through training and education for the workforce in recognizing and controlling hazards in the construction industry.
Research shows that construction workers are most at risk of falls, electrical shock, struck-by, and caught between hazards on the job.
The SafetyWorks! program provides free safety and health consultations, trainings, and education resources for Maine employers and workers. For more information about upcoming trainings, visit the SafetyWorks! website at www.safetyworksmaine.com or call 1-877-SAFE-345 or TTY: 1-800-794-1110.
