Apprenticeship Highlighted at JMG Career Day
April 29, 2008
As part of an ongoing effort to expose young adults to learning opportunities in apprenticeship, representatives from the Maine Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program attended last week?s JMG Career Development Day at the Augusta Civic Center.
The event attracted over 500 graduating JMG seniors from around the state and featured a variety of workshops and competitions. Gene Ellis, Apprenticeship Director, noted that interest in apprenticeship was strong for students and parents who passed by the booth.
"One of the more appealing aspects of the Maine Apprenticeship Program is tuition reimbursement for approved training," said Ellis.
Students participating in the program can receive as much as 50 percent of tuition for up to four classes each year.
The Maine Apprenticeship Program has become a popular training option for businesses and workers in Maine. Last year, the program had a 265 percent increase in new registrations, with over 350 workers joining the program in 2007.
