July Programs for Job Seekers at the Machias and Calais CareerCenters

WASHINGTON COUNTY?The Washington County CareerCenters are offering programs in July for job seekers and those considering training to upgrade their skills and increase their employability.

?I encourage people looking for a new job or who want to change careers to take advantage of these free CareerCenter services,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?Use the tools they provide to market yourself in our improving economy. Be ready for the moment when the business you want to work for is ready to hire.?

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O?Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.

CareerCenters can assist businesses in recruiting employees and can offer onsite at no cost to the business. The following workshops and programs will be held at the CareerCenters noted below.

GATEways to Employment: Group Access to Employment Session?July 3, 2 p.m. at the Calais CareerCenter and July 25, 9 a.m. at the Machias CareerCenter. Is your job search in need of a boost? Essentials of College Planning?July 25, 10 a.m. at the Machias CareerCenter. Sally Daniels, an advisor from Maine Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) will be offering a free workshop on College Awareness and Planning along with the Federal Financial Aid process for adults. The session will discuss college and trade school options in the Washington County region, entrance requirements, readiness and transitional issues of adult students, admissions procedures and financial aid. The instructor will assist participants in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Participants should bring their 2012 1040 tax form (or income estimates for 2012) and any high school/GED and college transcripts.
