SKOWHEGAN? Maine CareerCenters bring job seekers and employers together. If you are interested in getting a new job or changing careers, the Skowhegan CareerCenter?s June programs can get you started.

?Maine?s Job Bank, a free online service for both employers and job seekers, has hit a record number of open jobs since it launched in 2008,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?I encourage both businesses and people looking for a new job to take advantage of this no-cost service. More than 6,000 jobs ranging from entry level to managerial and professional are listed in all parts of the state.?

Workshops and events are held at the CareerCenter unless otherwise noted. Maine veterans receive priority of service in all CareerCenter programs. To register for sessions held at the CareerCenter, call 474-4950.

GATEway to Employment?Mondays, June 10 and 24, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. This workshop will provide you more information about the resources that the CareerCenter has to offer, including the newest tools to assist you in conducting an efficient and productive job search. Topics covered include: how to tap into the ?hidden job market,? identifying the skills you have to offer employers, tips on successfully completing applications, resumes and cover letters and how to register and apply for jobs posted through the CareerCenter.

Resume 1 and Cover Letter Writing?Tuesday, June 4, 1 to 3:30 p.m. This workshop provides valuable tips on cover letters, resume writing, the contents and format and much more. Learn to make a new, highly effective resume using the techniques taught in this workshop.

Successful Interviewing Skills?June 11, 1.to 3:30 p.m. Discussion of the purpose of the interview, types of interviews and general preparation for interviews. ?Tough? interview questions will be discussed so that you can answer then with confidence.

Resume 2?Thursday, June 13, 1. to 3 p.m. Now that you have learned the basics in the Resume 1 workshop, sign up for the Resume 2 session. Bring your resume on a thumb drive?we?ll help you take it from good to great! Reserve your spot to work on a laptop computer and receive guidance from the experts.

Set your Goals?Tuesday, June 18, 1 to 3:30 p.m. Manage your time! Set goals! When you know how to manage your time effectively, you can achieve personal and professional success. Open Computer Lab?Thursday, June 20, 1 to 3:00 p.m. Reserve your spot to use one of the laptop computers and receive one-on-one help with Basic Computer Skills 101, Maine?s Job Bank registration and other job search tutorials.

Effective Communication Skills?Tuesday, June 25, 1 to 3:30 p.m. Discover your own communication style and be able to recognize the style of others. Communicating clearly can help improve your relationship with supervisors, coworkers, friends and family.

CareerCenter Group Application Session?Mondays, June 3, 10, 17 and 20. All sessions start at 2 p.m. Our CareerCenter Consultants assist people with their job searches, career decision making and training plans. If you are interested in obtaining more one-on-one assistance from a CareerCenter Consultant, then this workshop is for you. Contact the CareerCenter at 474-4950 to get the list of required documents to bring to this session.

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O*Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
