Task Force Makes Recommendations on Service Animals
January 15, 2008
Members of the Task Force To Evaluate and Recommend Revisions to the Definition of Service Dog recently released a report outlining their recommendations to the Maine Legislature.
The panel met in 2007 as a result of earlier legislation, which required the Maine Department of Labor to convene a panel of interested parties to review current statutory definitions of ?service dog? and to define criteria to be used by town and city clerks when providing license fee exemptions, as well as criteria to be used by medical practitioners when prescribing service animals. The legislation also requested a proposal of statutory revisions to clarify the rights of people with disabilities regarding service animals and the rights and responsibilities of business owners concerning service animals.
