More than 30 employers will be hiring

Machias?The Machias CareerCenter will hold a job fair on May 1, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lee-Pellon Center, 90 Main Street in Machias. More than 30 employers will be recruiting for open positions.

?Summer is when Washington County kicks into high gear,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?This is a great time to apply for full-time or summer jobs in our many local industries. The job fair will feature many of Maine?s strongest employers.?

Employers registered to date include: Acadian Seaplants, Care and Comfort, Community Health and Counseling Services, Cooke Aquaculture USA and True North Maine, Inc., Department of Health and Human Services Office of Child and Family Services, Down East Community Hospital, EBS, Employer Support of Guard & Reserve, Families United of Washington County, Great Pond Outdoor Adventure Center, Hannaford, Living Innovations, Machias Savings Bank, Maine Army National Guard, Maine Veterans Home, Maine Wild Blueberries, Marshall?s Health Care, MAS Home Care of Maine, Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility, National ABLE Network, NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement, Origami Owl, Project Flagging, Inc., R.H. Foster Energy, Sunrise County Economic Council, Sunrise Opportunities, The Lane Construction Corporation, UCP of Maine, University of Maine at Machias, U.S. Air National Guard, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Wal-Mart (Calais), Washington County Community College and Washington Academy.

Information specific to services and training opportunities for veterans will also be available.

Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette reminded jobseekers to be prepared to make a strong first impression. ? It?s a good idea to dress professionally,? she noted. ?Don?t forget to bring multiple copies of your resume and be prepared to have an ?interview-like? conversation with employers to discuss your skills and abilities.?

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of workshops and services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O?Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.

The Machias CareerCenter, 255-1900, is located at 53 Prescott Drive, Suite 1 in Machias. The Calais CareerCenter is located at Washington Community College on One College Drive in Calais.
