Report Offers Profile of Older Workers in Maine Bookmark and Share

August 6, 2007

An ongoing partnership between the Maine Department of Labor and the U.S. Census Bureau led to the development of a recently released Profile of Older Workers in Maine report.

The study combined wage records supplied by the Maine Department of Labor with household data from the U.S. Census. The report noted that slightly more than 15% of the Maine workforce is over the age of 55, and that all counties in Maine experienced an increase in older workers in the period between 2001 and 2004. Growth was highest in the coastal counties of Lincoln, Knox, Waldo, and Hancock, where the number of workers 55 and older increased by 23 percent or more.
