All Georgia Pacific Workers at Old Town Mill Certified for Trade Benefits

All Georgia Pacific Workers at Old Town Mill Certified for Trade Benefits
Augusta- Governor John Baldacci today announced that all pulp and paper workers at the Georgia Pacific Mill in Old Town have been certified by the U.S. Department of Labor as eligible to apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) benefits. A prior trade certification had only covered workers employed in pulp manufacturing at the mill.
TAA certification allows the workers to apply for benefits under the Trade Act of 2002, including job search assistance, training, relocation allowances, additional weeks of unemployment benefits, and tax credits for health care costs.
An additional TAA petition has been submitted to cover the approximately 25 workers at Georgia Pacific chip mills in Milo, Costigan, Houlton, and Portage. That certification is currently under review by the U.S. Department of Labor.
The Maine Department of Labor supplies and processes individual applications for TAA benefits.
