Local legislators join roundtable on storm repair and resiliency efforts

OLD ORCHARD BEACH - Sen. Donna Bailey, D-Saco, and Reps. Lori K. Gramlich, D-Old Orchard Beach, and Lynn Copeland, D-Saco, joined local and state officials on Friday at the Old Orchard Beach Fire Station to discuss storm recovery and resiliency efforts in York County.

The meeting was organized by the newly formed Infrastructure Rebuilding and Resilience Commission, which was created by Gov. Janet Mills to evaluate Maine's response to recent storms and identify ways to prepare for future extreme weather events.

Sen. Ingwersen, Rep. Gramlich applaud EPA announcement of new standards for PFAS in drinking water

AUGUSTA - On Wednesday, the Environmental Protection Agency announced final rules that will establish new standards to limit exposure to Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), also known as "forever chemicals," in drinking water.

Additionally, the agency announced that $1 billion will be newly available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help states implement PFAS testing and treatment at public water systems, as well as to help owners of private wells address contamination.

Legislators call on Cabela's, Kittery Trading Post to stop selling assault weapons

AUGUSTA - Forty-seven Maine legislators have signed on to two letters calling on Cabela's and the Kittery Trading Post to stop selling military-style, semi-automatic weapons, commonly referred to as assault rifles. The conference will focus on the challenge of confronting rising seas and coastal erosion, and Gramlich's remarks will address the effects of climate change on Maine's shoreline and the economy, as well as how she and other state officials are working to mitigate the impact.
