Private Industry

It is the purpose of the Maine Library of Geographic Information Board to "operate a coordinated, cost-effective electronic gateway providing public access to data custodians' public geographic information,". and to "develop services to facilitate generalized access for and use of data by government agencies and the public."

Recognizing the importance of Maine's private sector GIS industry, the overall situation of public-private partnership, and its relevance and importance for the competitiveness of the GIS industry, the GeoLibrary Board observes the following basic conditions under which such cooperation functions:

  1. It is the purpose of the Board to set policy, adopt standards, promote data development, and provide access to collections and spatial data.
  2. It is the responsibility of the Board to coordinate and promote the use of spatial data and information to encourage the sustainable development and growth of the private sector.
  3. It is the function of the Board to expend its funds to support the development, standardization and collection of public data, there by providing opportunities for the development of value added services within the private sector, and stimulating the growth within Maine's GIS industry.
  4. It is the policy of the Board to award projects or distribute funds in support of the development of products and services on a competitive basis.
