As part of DHHS’ commitment to equity and inclusion  in Maine’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts the DHHS Office of Aging and Disability Services (OADS) is  supporting  drive-up vaccination clinics that prioritize access and provide additional supports for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) – as well as caretakers, family members, and the local community. To date, OADS has supported six adult IDD vaccine clinics statewide, from Westbrook to Caribou, where more than 250 Mainers have been vaccinated.

Maine CDC’s Public Health Nurses have been instrumental in Maine’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts – getting the vaccine to Mainers in remote communities and leveraging their roles as trusted health care providers to encourage vaccination and combat misinformation.

Supporting Mainers experiencing difficulties managing mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders is a core part of the Department of Health and Human Services’ (DHHS) mission, and of Governor Mills’ administration.

In addition to the historic challenges in Maine’s behavioral health system, the stressors over the past year related to the COVID-19 pandemic have increased the need for mental health and substance use services, exacerbated workforce challenges, and shone a light on the need to incorporate behavioral health support as a key factor in disaster response.

On her first day in office, Governor Mills expanded Medicaid and directed Maine DHHS to develop a plan to make MaineCare stronger and sustainable. Today, nearly 78,000 Maine people have access to affordable health care through the expansion, which has been especially vital during the pandemic. The proposed budget allows DHHS to further improve access to high-quality health care.
