In 2021, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) announced a series of new initiatives to advance health equity in communities at higher risk of COVID-19 and address systemic health inequities revealed during the pandemic. These projects are supported by a COVID-19 Health Disparities grant of over $32 million from the U.S.

The federal deadline to implement the EVV requirements for Home Health providers delivering services under Section 40 and Hospice providers delivering services under Section 43 happened January 1, 2023.
We continue to offer weekly provider and aggregator trainings and forums. All trainings and forums are online via Microsoft Teams.

Last Fall, MaineCare provided notice that it had initiated a rate determination process for Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTFs) pursuant to P.L. 2021, Ch. 635, an Act to Improve the Child Welfare System. The Department began this rate determination prior to the adoption of P.L. 2021, Ch. 639.
The FY 2024 PNMI Section 97, Appendix F rate letters will be accessible on the secure Health PAS Online Portal by July 1, 2023. You can view them by logging into your Trading Partner Account and following this pathway: File Exchange > Reports > Rate Setting Letters. We will provide additional notice once the letters have been posted.
On April 18, 2023, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced changes to simplify the use of Bivalent mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. As a result, additional CPT codes have been created by the American Medical Association (AMA) for use in billing for the administration of COVID-19 vaccines.
On May 10, 2023, CMS updated the Laboratories: CMS Flexibilities to Fight COVID-19 document found on the CMS Coronavirus waivers and flexibilities web page.

During the COVID-19 PHE, the Department issued guidance to providers allowing verbal consent in place of wet signatures, except where a signature is specifically required through federal regulation.
Earlier this year, the Department made changes to Section 28 rates and modifier combinations as a result of recent rate studies conducted in relation to P.L. 2021 Ch. 398, Pt. AAAA; Ch. 635, Pt JJJ; and Ch. 639.
