Who We Are

For the second year, DHHS is posting "Who We Are," (PDF) is a snapshot of our workforce. We are proud of an average tenure of 10 years and aim to increase it through our retention efforts.

We continue to recruit talented and dedicated individuals of all backgrounds to serve Maine people.

Who We Serve

We have also released our sixth Who We Serve (PDF) snapshot, which provides key statistics for major programs throughout DHHS. Updated quarterly, it shows at a glance the content and scope of DHHS services.

Constituent Services

Constituent Services provides support to those with questions or concerns regarding any of the many programs and services offered through DHHS. Some of the most common types of questions revolve around program eligibility and benefits, health services such as those related to aging or mental health, and child welfare.

With the arrival of COVID-19 in the United States and the State of Maine, DHHS continues to experience a large increase in public health-related inquiries to the Office of Constituent Services.

In total, the Office received 2,721 inquiries between April 1 and June 30 of this year -- up nearly 60 percent from a total of 1,729 in the first three months of 2020. This continues a trend of significantly higher than average questions, primarily relating to public health.

The Maine CDC experienced another surge in inquiries related to COVID-19, with a total of 689 inquiries, compared to 354 in the first quarter of 2020 and 40 during the last quarter of 2019.

Additionally, the Commissioner's Office received 1,103 inquiries, up significantly from 403 inquiries last quarter, and 107 in the last three months of 2019.
