Documents

So much of the work that State government does is communicated in writing in forms, reports, memos and other documents. It is important that this communication, regardless of format (Word, PowerPoint, PDF, etc.), is designed to be accessible.

While we may not consider State employees designers, every time we select a font or add a picture, change a color, we're making a design choice. Formatting is important when designing documents for readability, not only for persons with disabilities, but everyone, especially as we age. Reading small print and distinguishing colors becomes more difficult with age, and difficult or impossible with severe vision loss.

Below we've covered some major document formats such as Word and PowerPoint, as well as the cross-cutting principles of selecting fonts and colors and styling your information to make it accessible.
