Brunswick CareerCenter Moving to SMCC-Midcoast Campus September 21-24

BRUNSWICK--The Bureau of Employment Services (BES) at the Maine Department of Labor (MDOL) has announced that the Southern Midcoast CareerCenter is moving to Southern Maine Community College--Midcoast Campus (SMCC-MC) on Brunswick Landing, formerly the Brunswick Naval Air Station (BNAS). The move includes the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program that is housed within the CareerCenter and is expected to have limited disruption to service, and no changes to staff or services to workers and employers, upon reopening.

"As we continually seek ways to better deliver CareerCenter services, we will build on existing partnerships and forge new ones to make delivery of CareerCenter services more efficient and effective, and modernize the system and its physical footprint to meet our customers' needs now and well into the future," said Labor Commissioner John Butera.

The Southern Midcoast CareerCenter's current location, 275 Bath Rd. in Brunswick, will close at 12 noon on Friday, September 21 and move two miles away to the L.L. Bean Learning Commons at SMCC-MC, 29 Sewall St. on Brunswick Landing. It will re-open for normal business hours at 8 a.m. on Monday, September 24 with a new phone number -- 207-721-8200.

Department of Labor staff will continue to review contracts, seek partners, and find new and more effective ways to reach workers and employers alike, with an emphasis on cost savings. "(CareerCenters) definitely will look different a year from now, including smaller physical spaces, use of partner sites, and distance services," added BES Director Ed Upham.

Maine CareerCenters, with 12 locations across the state, are part of the Maine Department of Labor, and provide employment and training services at no charge for Maine workers and businesses.
