Workshop Helps Improve Small Business Safety Services Bookmark and Share

April 15, 2009

Jane Garland, SafetyWorks! safety and health consultant, teamed up with her counterpart from New Hampshire to host a three-day Systems Assessment Workshop aimed at helping new safety and health consultants better serve small business clients through OSHA 21(d) program safety and health consultations.

The training was held at the Central Maine Commerce Center and involved nine new consultants from five states.

Although the primary focus of many small business consultations is identifying hazards and reviewing performance of OSHA mandated safety and health programs, this training was designed to help consultants in assessing an employer?s safety and health management system.

Effective safety and health management systems are a key factor in helping employers reduce workplace injuries and illnesses. Safety and health management systems typically include involvement by management and workers and formal plans for worksite analysis, ongoing training, and hazard prevention and control.
