Public comment required under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act

AUGUSTA?The Bureau of Employment Services at Maine Department of Labor seeks comment on the draft Eligible Training Provider List Policy as required under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

The public comment period closes on July 20, 2016. Public comments must be submitted via email to Virginia.A.Carroll@maine.gov .

The Eligible Training Provider List Policy Draft has been developed using requirements of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Notices of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) issued jointly by the U.S. Departments of Labor and Education; and the Information Collection Request (ICR) regarding proposed reporting requirements awaiting Office of Management and Budget approval; as such, the requirements identified in this policy are subject to change once the WIOA Final Rules are published at the end of June 2016 and the Office of Management and Budget has approved the proposed reporting requirements.

After input from key stakeholders solicited in February 2016, the State has opted not to impose any additional State performance requirements on providers of education and training programs seeking to be eligible to receive training funds authorized under WIOA Title I-B programs.

The Maine Department of Labor helps improve opportunities for workers and businesses through workforce development via its Bureaus of Employment Services and Rehabilitation Services, in conjunction with its workforce partner agencies and programs. The State Workforce Board is responsible for assisting the Governor in performing the duties and responsibilities required by the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014.
