AUGUSTA?The 2013 Hiring Our Heroes job fair in Augusta will take place at the Augusta Armory at 179 Western Ave. on Oct. 8, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A workshop for veterans and other military job seekers focusing on resume writing, tips for successfully navigating hiring fairs, military-skill translation and interviewing will be held at 9 a.m. To register for the Hiring Our Heroes Employment Workshop, visit http://augusta-oct8-hohworks-eorg.eventbrite.com/ .

?Our current and former military personnel have incredible skills they can offer Maine businesses,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?This job fair is an excellent opportunity for businesses to hire a talented person while thanking him or her for serving our country with honor.?

Employers include Amtrak, AutoZone, Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, Cianbro, Department of Veterans Affairs, FedEx Ground, General Dynamics/Bath Iron Works, JobsinME.com, LJ3 Communications, SEI/Aaron's, Inc., Hertz, Tradesmen International, U.S. Postal Service, New Balance, T-Mobile and Walgreens.

Attendees should bring a resume and, more important, should be prepared to have an ?interview-like? conversation with employers to discuss skills, knowledge areas and abilities. Job seekers should also be dressed for an interview.

This hiring event is being conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation; local chambers of commerce; the U.S. Department of Labor Veterans? Employment & Training Service (DOL VETS); Maine Committee, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR); the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; the American Legion; NBC News; and other local partners.

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer specialized employment and training services for veterans. If you served in the U.S. Armed Forces a CareerCenter Veterans' Representative can help you find a job, get new skills, or access other state or federal resources available to Veterans. Veterans and eligible spouses are given priority for employment, training and placement services provided under most Maine Department of Labor-funded programs. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
