More than 45 employers are hiring; free transportation available for veterans

AUBURN?The Lewiston CareerCenter will be participating in the tenth annual Androscoggin County Job Fair on Friday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to noon at Central Maine Community College, 1250 Center Street, Auburn. Forty-five employers will be participation in the event. Two organizations are offering free transportation for veterans from surrounding counties.

?For ten years, the Androscoggin Chamber?s job fair has showcased the businesses of the Greater Lewiston-Auburn area,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?I encourage anyone looking to change careers or to get a new job to participate and meet the employers that make our state ?Open for Business?.?

Two organizations are offering veterans free transportation to the job fair. Veterans from Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties can contact Community Concepts at 1-800-866-5588 48 hours in advance to arrange a ride. Veterans from Franklin County can also contact Western Maine Transportation at 1-800-393-9335 to make a reservation for transportation.

?I remember working on the first annual Androscoggin County job fair,? recalled Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette. ?This has become an important event for the economy of the region and for local jobseekers. I am glad to see so many employers participating this year.?

Attendees should bring a resume and should be prepared to have an ?interview-like? conversation with employers to discuss skills, knowledge areas and abilities. Job seekers should also be dressed for an interview.

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of workshops and services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O?Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
