Spring Jobs Fairs Scheduled Around the State: More Added

AUGUSTA? Spring is coming, and so are many opportunities to find a new job. The CareerCenters are currently involved in planning several career fairs, so brush up your resume and come dressed as if you were being interviewed for a job. Hundreds of employers will be hiring for both permanent and seasonal positions.

?Job fairs highlight the different companies and types of jobs a region offers,? explained Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette. ?Job fairs are great places for people in different situations?whether it be someone who is unemployed, a younger person needing career ideas or someone who really wants to change careers?to be able to talk to many businesses and be inspired. Getting people back to work is a focus of the LePage Administration.?

The list begins with the an Education and Training Resource Fair in Lewiston, where job seekers and those considering changing careers can learn about opportunities to access training and find the right training program. Organizations that offer financial resources to support education and training will also be available to answer questions.

Several of the job fairs have a special focus, such as the Hiring Maine?s Heroes Job Fair in Augusta, which focuses on matching veterans with employment and specific resources, but the general public is welcome to participate as well.

• April 19: Third Annual York County Regional Job Fair, 10 a.m.?2 p.m., Nasson Community Center, 457 Main Street, Springvale
• May 1: Machias Area Job Fair, 10 a.m.?1 p.m., at the Lee-Pellon Center, Machias
• May 14: Bangor CareerCenter Job Fair, 1?4 p.m., at the Spectacular Events Center
• May 15: Pittsfield Area Regional Job Fair, 3:30?6:30 p.m., Warsaw Middle School Gym & Cafeteria

Last spring, York County held a Regional Job Fair in Springvale, with 65 organizations participating and more than 550 people attending. Feedback indicates that 50 job seekers were hired by such businesses as Adecco, Cianbro, FedEx Ground, Bonney Staffing, Fiber Materials, Home Helpers, Hussey Seating, Lakeview NeuroRehabilitation, New England Truck Tire, Project Flagging, Springborn Staffing, Waban and the York County Jail.

Paquette noted that the Department of Labor offers a number of resources for people looking for a new job. ?For those who might need training to make a career change or get a dream job, the job fairs and the CareerCenters can help job seekers make those connections.? She added, ?People do not have to try to do this on their own. In fact, people can visit a CareerCenter at any time to learn about training and apprenticeship opportunities.?
